Robot Arm Teleoperation was my final year project for my engineering degree at Monash University. The goal was to control an industrial robot arm (KUKA LBR iiwa 7 R800) using an intuitive leader-follower control concept, offering an easier-to-learn and generalisable alternative to conventional interfaces.

The leader is a custom designed passive 7-DoF mini-arm with rotary encoders at each joint. Joint positions are read by a Raspberry Pi, scaled to account for differences in linkage length and range of motion, and streamed to the KUKA arm over OPC UA and KUKA’s Fast Robot Interface for low-latency control.

A user study was conducted to compare the mini-arm against alternative control methods on target marking and pick-and-place tasks, assessing accuracy, completion time, workload and usability.
